Reporting to the Director of Strategic Communications and Marketing for The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, the Multimedia Graphic Designer will develop compelling visual designs that effectively communicate the school's mission and brand across print, web, digital displays, and social media. The individual will have experience effectively messaging brands through visual means to advance marketing goals through external advertising, promotional materials, social media, publications, and related outreach channels. The candidate should be an expert in design best practices for multimedia and be able to effectively manage a diverse range of visual projects. The candidate should also be an effective copy-editor, evidencing the high level of mastery with crafting the accompanying texts to these graphic images.As a member of the School of Music Communications and Marketing team, the Multimedia Graphic Designer should demonstrate mastery of Adobe Creative Cloud to develop a variety of media that advances the goals of the school including expanding its visibility, enhancing its reputation, increasing its brand equity both locally and nationally, growing enrollment, and supporting advancement efforts. The Graphic Designer should be able to work independently on assigned projects while also working collaboratively with the communications and marketing team to define visual strategy for outreach efforts while assisting in the planning and execution of marketing materials and related projects.

Required/Preferred
Three to five years' experience in multimedia design, preferably as part of an in-house marketing team, within an agency setting, within higher education, or at a non-profit organization.
Required
Skilled portfolio of multimedia design work, including the implementation of video, still photography, and motion graphics. Thorough understanding of traditional and digital design principles including print, e-publications, video graphics, and visuals for social media and web. Ability to set and articulate design standards and conceptualize design across platforms and mediums.

High-level proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, Lightroom; working knowledge of HTML/CSS and WordPress a plus.

Demonstrated experience with social media visual standards and strategies.

Strong sense of creativity, versatility, conceptual/visual ability, and originality to produce deliverables with a high level of aesthetic refinement combined with appropriate and accurate accompanying texts.

Working knowledge of print production processes and ability to determine how to prepare and coordinate each job including prior experience identifying vendors, surveying price points, obtaining bids, and monitoring vendor performance.

Skill and willingness to work as part of a team and collaborate on projects. Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact and communicate in one-on-one and group settings as well as to build cooperative, effective relationships with administration, faculty, staff, and design colleagues across campus.

Skill in devising and meeting realistic and comprehensive production schedules. Ability to multi-task while prioritizing key projects and independently managing a variety of assignments in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Ability to problem solve, make changes and corrections as needed, and offer appropriate solutions.

Extreme attention to detail and accuracy to ensure that projects are finalized within three rounds of proofing or less. Ability to proofread, edit text, and suggest effective copy using accurate grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Strong proofreading and editing skills to spot typos and suggest appropriate alternative messaging where necessary.

Computer proficiency on both Apple and PC products including Mac OS and Windows to operate a personal computer. Ability to work on a shared computer network. Familiarity with Google Workspace, Slack, Smartsheet, Airtable, and MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) a plus.

Ability to work occasional evenings and/or weekends as required to assist in event coverage and production.
